Cervical Pillow

An introduction to cervical pillows

A cervical pillow refers to a pillow that functions to support a person’s head and neck according to their cervical support needs. It helps to correct one’s resting position so that their head and neck are aligned properly to their torso and the resting surface, in which would relief tensions in the neck area as well as allow for proper relaxation. While people have different sleeping habits, these pillows are designed to meet the general where the head depresses into the pillow and the neck requires support. Previously, people would need to manually adjust the layers to meet a person’s individual cervical indents. Yet, with time, people have discovered memory foam that enables a semi-customization of the pillows.

There are different shapes of which these pillows can come in, whether cylindrical, hourglass, or rectangular. They can come with depressions in the pillow of a shape suited for the head. This is especially suitable for back and side sleepers. For those that are designed with memory foam, they can come in shapes of waves, or S-shape, so that when one sleeps on their back, the top part of the head is lifted while its back is depressed into the foam, while the neck is lifted so that the curvature of one’s back is supported.

The cervical pillow comes with many ergonomic properties in which allow discomfort to be minimized. When it comes to injuries in or to do with the cervical region of a person, doctors would prescribe the pillow to minimize tension while promoting proper posture that helps aid recovery. It also aligns the cervical spine, allowing for the airway to straighten, thus reduces snoring. Since it promotes proper posture, one can have a good rest, while reducing headaches that one gets when they do not have sufficient sleep. All in all, this pillow can be beneficial to anyone who hopes to have a good night’s rest.
